A Gift From Q & U / October 19 2003

Yes, I am ashamed to say that it has taken by 9 days to finally see Kill Bill. I'll admit, I was scared. Aside from being annoyed that the film was broken up into two pieces so that Miramax could weigh down their pockets, I was further worried that the film would not meet my expectations.

In consequence, I must say I have been proven wrong by Mr. Tarantino. I should have not questioned his ability (albeit, let's not forget the relative mediocrity of Jackie Brown), but he has somehow merged various styles of the past into one intentionally quasi-coheseive project.

For those of you who are thinking that it is better to wait until Volume II for the purpose of watching the films back to back, I would suggest otherwise.

Kill Bill is like chocolate. Too much of it will make you sick, but just the right amount is heaven. The best parts of the films were parts I didn't expect, which is why I'll refrain from saying anything more. I'm saddened that I knew some of the surprises due to the trailer, but alas, that's a side effect of mass media.

One last thing: I shall never look at Japanese schoolgirls the same way again.

EXTERNAL Crime fighter from Elizabeth, New Jersey? I hope Nick knows how to stave these kids from jumping off of buildings.
