Annual Bittersweets / December 06 2003 Tonight, there has been a reaffirmation of the thrilling saga of disappointment that has encircled my life. The undefeated Oklahoma Sooners, heralded as one of the greatest teams in college football history, are a few minutes away from losing to the Kansas State Wildcats. Generally, I would be beyond ecstatic. Oklahoma is, after all, arguably my most hated team in existence. But tonight, for once, I needed them to win. For once in my life, I was supporting them. But alas, they enjoy making my blood boil. Same old story as 2001 and 2002. This is my life, the story of a loyal Texas sports fan, experiencing bittersweet heartbreaks as if they were a dime a dozen. I didn't ask for much this year. I didn't even ask for a trip to the championship game, much less to win it all. All I wanted was a trip to the Fiesta Bowl for my Texas Longhorns to play a good team, get some national coverage, be a big boy in a busy world. But instead, Texas will probably play in the Outback Bowl or Cotton Bowl against good but not great Florida or Mississippi teams. The sheer fact that the number one team in the country, undefeated and thought to be unbeatable (there is a difference between the two) gets pummeled to the ground by a team Texas has already beaten this year is a testament to the tragedy that fills our hearts. I am hurting. ![]() HOPE Whoever goes to the Sugar Bowl to play Oklahoma, be it the LSU Tigers or the USC Trojans, I hope they rape them to hell and bring back Bob Stoops' head. That is all. | |
